On Sep 30, MOFCOM held press conference. MOFCOM spokesman Chong Quan introduced some significant activities that would be held in commercial fields in Oct and answered questions raised by reporters.
Chong Quang: First of all I’d like to report some significant activities that will be held in commercial field in Oct.
1, the 8th session of China Hi-tech Fair will be held in Shenzhen on Oct 12-17.
The 8th session of China Hi-tech Fair which concentrates on national economic developing strategy, with the theme of “independent innovation, recycling economy and IPR protection”, set up six sections including hi-tech product fair, hi-tech exhibition for special product, world forum on technique and economy, super-SUPER activity, Exchanging meeting for hi-tech talent and intelligence and never fall fair.
With outstanding characteristic of independent innovation, the 8th session of China Hi-tech Fair will fully display the latest achievements innovated independently by China. MOFCOM will push forward a set of China’s brand that revitalizing trade with technique. NDRC will exhibit significant independent innovation projects achieved in national economy and social development during the 10th Five Year Plan. Chinese Academy of Sciences will select high level innovative projects in fields like energy resources, environment and population health to participate exhibition. And MOA will exhibit modern agricultural technique project with theme of recycling economy and green agriculture.
2, the 100th Chinese Export Commodities Fair will open in Guangzhou from Oct 15 to 30.
Inaugurated in 1957, Chinese Export Commodities Fair experiences half a century since foundation of China in 1949 and witnesses process of China’s development on foreign trade and China’s construction of economic society. The 100th session Fair is concerned at home and abroad. At the beginning of Oct, we will hold press conference in Beijing and introduces relevant situation. Reporters are welcomed to participate on that occasion.
3, the 2nd session of China Catering Expo will be held in Xi’an from Oct 18 to20.
Reporter: China and Portuguese-speaking countries hold the 2nd ministerial meeting of China- Portuguese-speaking Countries Forum recently. What are the achievements gained in the meeting?
Chong: From Sep 24 to 25, the 2nd Ministerial Conference of the Forum on Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and Portuguese-Speaking Countries held in Macao. It gains high recognition from all attendees. State Councilor Hua Jianmin, on behalf of Chinese government, attended and made a significant remark at the meeting. 13 ministerial officials from 7 Portuguese-Speaking countries, Deputy Secretary-General of UNCTAD and representatives of international organizations attended.
The meeting is successfully held. Minister Bo Xilai together with ministers from Portuguese-Speaking countries attending the meeting signed 2007-2009 Action Plan on Trade and Economic Cooperation and made plan for further strengthening economic and trade cooperation between China and Portuguese-Speaking countries. It also put forward new proposal on enhancing governmental cooperation and cooperation in agriculture and fishery, infrastructure construction, natural resources, human resources, etc.
R：It is said that US senator recently says that they won’t push US congress to adopt Schumer bill on China’s import product in 2006. What is your opinion on this comment?
Chong: We notice the attitude of Schumer and other senators. Economic and trade ties is the key foundation and constitutes of Sino-US relations. As the biggest developing country and developed country, China and US are complementary in economic structure and developing level. Bilateral economic and trade cooperation is in win-win situation and has great developing potential. It meets basic benefit of the two countries and people that keeping and developing healthy and steady development of Sino-US economic and trade relations.
R: MOFCOM puts forward working deployment for revitalizing time-honored brand this year. What is the situation the work?
Chong: Since releasing of Circular of MOFCOM on Implementing the Project of Revitalizing the Time-honored shops and Enterprises, the first set of application and initial evaluation are smoothly accomplished under active organization of all local administrations of commerce and close cooperation of relevant enterprises. MOFCOM organizes relevant institutes and experts to strictly examine 967 applied time-honored brands. 434 time-honored brands are confirmed in accordance with the requirement initially. Please pay attention to the time-honored brands published by MOFCOM on governmental network.
R: What is the effect of Online Biz-matching Fair of Autumn Agricultural Products held by MOFCOM recently?
Chong: In order to help farmers to well operate agricultural products sales in this autumn, from Sep 15 to Oct 15, MOFCOM held 2006 Biz-matching Fair of Autumn Agricultural Products on Rural Commercial Network. It combines online and offline to realize biz-matching of agricultural product, help farmers to find information and solve difficulty of sales and purchase. It develops smoothly. By Sep 25, transaction value amounted to RMB 65.1047mln yuan, with RMB1.9488 yuan actual transaction. It warmly welcomed by all communities and farmers benefit from the fair. We will further improve the measures and make great effort of it.
