Nationalconference on trade remedy and industrial safety, sponsored by Mofcom was held in Chuzhou, Anhui from May 3 to 4. Mr. Chong Quan, Deputy China International Trade Representative attended the conference and delivered a speech on “accurately grasp the situation and focus on the key work in order to create a favorable external environment and endogenous motivation for China’s industries to enhance their international competitiveness”. Ms. Hua Jianhui, Vice Governor of Anhui Province, attended and addressed the conference.

Mr. Chong Quan said that there have been positive signs of recovery this year, but the world economy is still in post-crisis era. Developed economies’ reshaping the real economy and the rapid rise of emerging economies has made the international competition even more intense. The global economic governance structure change as well as the multilateral trade system is faced with severe tests, and many countries are striving to promote regional economic cooperation.

Mr. Chong Quan said that since the reform and opening-up, especially from 1990s, China has grasped the historical opportunity of international industrial division and reorganization, fully played its comparative advantages, build a platform for international industry transfer, participate in the global division of labor, and gradually became a global manufacturing and processing production base as well as the industrial international competitiveness and the ability to resist risks have been improved rapidly. However, it should be noted that, China's industrial development is still faced with many difficulties and challenges, especially those unstable and uncertain factors when confronted with the world economic recovery, for instance, the international market remains in the doldrums; industrial transformation and upgrading is faced with the multiple pressures, etc.

Ms. Hua Jianhui said that confronted with the complex and difficult world economy situation and increasingly prominent pressures and challenges brought by international trend of trade protectionism, local commercial departments should be prepared for any trade frictions and ensure industrial safety, which will exert an important and profound impact on economic and trade transformation, opening-up and innovative development of Anhui Province. Anhui provincial government would take this opportunity to raise the level of trade remedy and industrial safety.

More than 160 representatives from relevant departments 0f the State Council, local commercial departments, key industrial organizations and relevant departments and bureaus of MOFCOM attended the conference.
